Do you suffer from headaches or migraines? Chronic headaches and migraines afflict about one in six Americans. That’s about 45 million of us.
There are several different kinds of headaches, from the simple tension headache to the “wallbanger” throbbing migraine.
Tension headaches usually start at the base of the skull and may project all the way to the forehead. Common causes are postural mistakes like sitting in front of the computer or slumping your shoulders and letting your head hang forward. Practice sitting or standing with the top of your head reaching to the sky, and the tip of your tailbone rooted to the earth.
Migraines are typically one sided, sometimes going behind one eye and often are preceded by an aura of vision changes, sensitivity to smells, lights, etc. They may be caused by hormonal changes, allergies, chemical sensitivities and other unknown causes. Structural problems with the neck, jaw, or cranial bones can also cause headaches.
Certain foods high in tyramine can cause headaches, too. High tyramine foods include red wine, aged meat, fish, and cheese, processed meat, snow pea pods, sauerkraut, avocados, guacamole, pickles, olives, breads, and soy products may all contribute to headaches. Sinus congestion or irritation, vision problems, blood pressure, blood sugar, magnesium deficiency, dehydration, all can be causes of headaches.
